Côté envies lectures je m'apprête à commencer Spellbook of the Lost and Found car de la même auteure j'ai déjà lu The accident season et j'avais bien aimé son écriture assez charismatique. C'est parti on commence!
* Spellbook of the Lost and Found - Moïra Fowley-Doyle
Résumé : One stormy summer
night, Olive and her best friend, Rose, begin to lose things. It starts
with simple items like hair clips and jewellery, but soon it’s clear
that Rose has lost something bigger; something she won’t talk about. Then
Olive meets three wild, mysterious strangers: Ivy, Hazel and Rowan.
Like Rose, they’re mourning losses - and holding tight to secrets. When
they discover the ancient spellbook, full of hand-inked charms to
conjure back lost things, they realise it might be their chance to set
everything right. Unless it’s leading them towards secrets that were
never meant to be found . . .
*Mechanica #1 - Betsy Cornwell
Résumé : Nicolette’s awful
stepsisters call her “Mechanica” to demean her, but the nickname fits:
she learned to be an inventor at her mother’s knee. Her mom is gone now,
though, and the Steps have turned her into a servant in her own home. But
on her sixteenth birthday, Nicolette discovers a secret workshop in the
cellar and begins to dare to imagine a new life for herself. Could the
mysterious books and tools hidden there—and the mechanical menagerie,
led by a tiny metal horse named Jules—be the key to escaping her dreary
existence? With a technological exposition and royal ball on the
horizon, the timing might just be perfect for Nicolette to earn her
freedom at last. Gorgeous prose and themes of social justice and
family shine in this richly imagined Cinderella retelling about an
indomitable inventor who finds her prince . . . but realizes she doesn't
want a fairy tale happy ending after all.
* The Nethergrim #1 - Matthew Jobin
Résumé : The people of Moorvale
put their faith in the legend: The knight Tristan and the wizard
Vithric, in an epic battle, had defeated the evil Nethergrim. That
faith is shaken when livestock go missing, only to turn up as piles of
bones. But it’s when a group of children disappear that they know for
sure: The Nethergrim has returned. Edmund’s brother is one of the
missing, and Edmund knows he must do something to save his life. But
what? Though a student of magic, he struggles to cast even the simplest
spell. Still, he and his friends swallow their fear and set out to battle an ancient evil whose powers none of them can imagine.
*The Architect of Song #1 - Haunted Hearts Legacy - A.G. Howard
*The Humminbird Heart #2
Résumé : A lady imprisoned by
deafness, an architect imprisoned by his past, and a ghost imprisoned
within the petals of a flower - intertwine in this love story that
transcends life and death. For most of her life,
nineteen-year-old Juliet Emerline has subsisted – isolated by deafness –
making hats in the solitude of her home. Now, she’s at risk to lose her
sanctuary to Lord Nicolas Thornton, a twenty-seven-year-old mysterious
and eccentric architect with designs on her humble estate. When she
secretly witnesses him raging beside a grave, Juliet investigates,
finding the name “Hawk” on the headstone and an unusual flower at the
base. The moment Juliet touches the petals, a young English nobleman
appears in ghostly form, singing a song only her deaf ears can hear. The
ghost remembers nothing of his identity or death, other than the one
name that haunts his afterlife: Thornton. International and NYT
bestselling author, A.G. Howard, brings her darkly magical and
visual/visceral storytelling to Victorian England. The Architect of Song is the first installment in her lush and romantic Haunted Hearts Legacy
series, a four book gothic saga following the generations of one family
as - haunted by both literal and figurative ghosts - they search for
self-acceptance, love, and happiness.
*Nostalgic Rain #1 - Galaxies Away - A.S. Altabtabai
Résumé : What seventeen-year-old Leland finds in the abandoned basement of his house is something he will never forget. Leland
lost his father when he was seven. Since then, he has successfully
adapted to the awful life of being a student, the man of the house, and a
father figure to his two younger siblings. All of that changes when he
and his best friends stumble upon a secret in his deserted basement, and
fall into another dimension with three moons, foggy woods, and an
ancient castle-Oremanta. Learning who he really is, how he came
to this remote planet, and the shocking, ugly mystery of Oremanta aren't
as bad as the quest he finds himself obligated to complete-killing
someone he never thought he'd meet in Oremanta to save everyone.
*The Crystal Ribbon - Celeste Lim
Résumé : In the village of Huanan,
in medieval China, the deity that rules is the Great Huli Jing. Though
twelve-year-old Li Jing's name is a different character entirely from
the Huli Jing, the sound is close enough to provide constant teasing-but
maybe is also a source of greater destiny and power. Jing's life isn't
easy. Her father is a poor tea farmer, and her family has come to the
conclusion that in order for everyone to survive, Jing must be
sacrificed for the common good. She is sold as a bride to the Koh
family, where she will be the wife and nursemaid to their three-year-old
son, Ju'nan. It's not fair, and Jing feels this bitterly, especially
when she is treated poorly by the Koh's, and sold yet again into a worse
situation that leads Jing to believe her only option is to run away,
and find home again. With the help of a spider who weaves Jing a means
to escape, and a nightingale who helps her find her way, Jing embarks on
a quest back to Huanan--and to herself.
